CAMBRIDGE GAS BOILERS

Ignition, Flame and Venting Faults on Cambridge Gas Boilers

When a Cambridge gas boiler catches its flame and then lets go, or dies only on gusty nights, the fault often sits in the flue or the draught, not the burner. Call (888) 766-1474 and describe the flame pattern and the weather it follows.

Condensate and controls in converted and condo buildings

Modern condensing boilers drain acidic condensate through a narrow pipe, and in a cold Cambridge basement that run can freeze or block, shutting the boiler down exactly when heat matters most. A shutdown that arrives with a cold snap and clears in a thaw is worth reporting in those exact terms.

Shared controls cause shared confusion. One thermostat for several flats, or timers set years ago and never revisited, produces complaints that look like boiler faults and behave like control faults. Note whether all flats follow the same schedule, and whether the fault moves when settings change.

Gas safety where many households share one building

A smell of gas, a carbon monoxide alarm, or a boiler room that smells wrong is not a repair booking — leave the building, call from outside, and tell neighbours to do the same. For anything less urgent, report the pattern precisely: flame behaviour, weather, time of day, and which flats are affected. Vague reports get vague visits.

Keep a chimney-weather diary

If your gas boiler fails on gusty nights and behaves on calm ones, start a diary: date, wind and rain, what the boiler did, and which flats were affected. Two weeks of entries will show whether failures track weather or strike at random — and that distinction decides whether the investigation starts at the chimney or at the burner.

Note chimney history in the same diary: whether the flue was touched when the boiler was last replaced, and whether any flat has added a vent or fan that could disturb draught. In a tall brick block, a neighbour's new extractor can change the draught for the whole stack.
